Day 21 Tools of the trade...More Instruments

Direct from the Hofburg Palace, trip two to the instrument museum! Luckily we brought two cameras, as my battery ran out again!

A Clavicitherium

Grossbassgamba made in 1585

On the left-Lira de Gamba

A Regal from 1580--notice the bellows on top to produce the sound

Trumpet made by Anton Schnitzer in1581

This trumpet is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the world. It also helps when there's a cute brass player behind it.

A Tartolten

The Serpent, the predecessor to brass instruments

Miniatures

Early Viennese xylophone

A Metallspiel from Mozart's era

A modern piano from the 1950s. I call this the Jetson's Piano...

Another modern piano which reminded me of a cupcake. I was hungry.

Checking out the special violin-making exhibit.

Marie Soldat, a violinist from Vienna in 1883

Lise Cristiani, a female cellist (!) from 1845.

Teresa and Maria Milanollo in 1842
A younger Beethoven

Beethoven as a child

Clara Schumann's piano that was then given to Brahms

Mr. Brahms

A Viennese Horn

Several flutes from the modern orchestra (1800s and beyond)
